As a former Special Education teacher, one of my students most frequent complaints was that I was treating them like a child by assigning books to read that were at their current reading level. (Example: assigning 3rd grade reading to a 10th grader). Even though my picture books are written at lower grade levels many of the themes they cover are of higher grade levels.
